All words have some history. Some are for the middle ages and others are from this current decade. The history of most words are very interesting, like what era they were used in and what the words actually mean or stand for and whether or not the word means the same thing now as it did when it was made. Platypus is a very interesting word and I’d liked to find that history on that.

The Platypus is a small, aquatic, egg-laying monotreme, of Australia and Tasmania, having webbed feet, a tail like that of a beaver, a sensitive bill resembling that of a duck, and, in adult males, venom-injecting spurs on the ankles of the hind limbs, used primarily for fighting with other males during the breeding season. The word platypus is from The Greek langue at around1799. The word Platypus originated form platys which means broad and flat and the word pous which means flat footed so when you put them to together you get Platypus. It is now known for its species type is Ornithorhynchus. The category of the animal has changed but the word platypus means the same thing now as it did in1799.

As has been shown words in the English langue have their own special history because English is made of so many different words form different languages. The meanings and the spellings may be different but it is still an amazing way of communications.
